Forming Habits Can Change Your Life
You need to start forming habits
I'll just come out and say it as it is;
You talking about it, is not doing it!
You talking about your goals, your dreams, and all that you want to achieve... and not doing enough about it, will not make them become reality.
You can win in life. We all have the potential to win in life.
But winning and thriving in life means different things to different people. Only you know what thriving and being successful means to you.
I know what it means to me.
For some people it might be having a million dollars in their bank account. Some, it might be living in a mansion with 2 swimming pools and a 5 car garage. And that's ok. You get to design the life you want for you... and no one should judge you for it.
Winning in life, for me, is being my own boss, working the hours I want to work. Having the freedom to pick up my kids from school, or be home when they get there. I want to be debt-free with surplus in my bank account. Being able to travel to my dream destinations at least once a year without stressing about the finances.
And am also fully aware that as I grow and evolve, so will my goals, dreams and desires.
Habits are key
The first step to growing and thriving, I've come to learn, is being consistent. Consistent in whatever you have to do to move the lever closer to your dreams.
But consistency is a muscle that needs training.
There’re days when you will feel creative and energetic and you'll get things done. Then, other days when you will not feel like getting out of bed. There are days you will be high on life and seeing results and others will be so slow, you'll feel like giving up.
But you have to stick the course!
If you are intentional on wanting what you believe is yours, and living the life you dream of… you have to stick through it.
How?
Through habits!
After reading the world famous book, Atomic Habits by James Clear, I understood a concept that’s so obvious, but escapes most, including myself.
If you want to form habits that will stick, start them small.
Start with things that do not feel like a chore.
If you want to get fit, for example, challenge yourself to do 5 push ups a day, 3 times a week.
If you want to start saving for a more financially stable future, start putting 5 dollars a month into a saving account.
But you have to be consistent, you have to stick to the commitment if you want to see any results. Because it is very true what they say... consistency pays.
My core habits
I challenged myself to sit down and write what an ideal day looked like in my life if all my dreams came true.
what time I’d be waking up
what’s my morning routine
where do I live? What kind of house?
what do I do as a job?... and many more questions.
Once I got that picture, I started thinking about the habits I had to form to lead me to the life the Christine of the future had.
I started immediately;
Wake up at 5.30am, start the day with devotion and gratitude to God for a new day... future Christine rolls with God!
Meditate while still sitting in bed, just check in and see where I am mentally... future Christine is very mindful.
Day planning in my journal, plus writing down my days affirmations... future Christine is organised and productive.
20 push ups. 20 mountain climbers, 20 Russian twists... future Christine is fit.
Shower and morning routine... because hygiene is key.
Notice I've not mentioned touching my phone in my morning routine. Future Christine is very aware of how much time she can waste scrolling on social media. Time she can be using to shape her life for the better.
The Healing
All these to say, if you want to improve your life, if you have dreams that need chasing and goals that need achieving.
If you know you have a bigger calling and purpose in life, then start forming habits.
Saving 5 dollars a month will give you 60 dollars extra a year, money you'd not have had had you not started. The 60 can be invested into a money market fund, or used to buy an online course to help you grow even more financially.
Starting with 5 push ups, and to some point it will get too easy, so you'll do 10, then 20 then 30. Bit by bit, you're getting stronger and stronger.
No matter how small these habits may seem at the beginning, they'll eventually compound to something amazing.
Challenge yourself to believe that you hold the key to changing your life
Believe in the power of small habits to lead you to greatness.
If you truly want to change your life, YOU CAN!
Journaling prompt:
What 3 small habits can I start today to help me start changing my life for better?
Love & light,
Christine
